How to adjust the tracks of an excavator

If the track is dirty, or caked with dust or mud, run the track several times to clean everything out so that you can clearly see the track pads.

1. Swing the boom to the side of the machine where the track needs to be adjusted. Lower the boom to where the bucket stops on the ground. Lift the machine to the point where the track on that side is completely off the ground.
 
2. If the track is dirty, or caked with dust or mud, run the track several times to clean everything out so that you can clearly see the track pads.
 
3. Grease in the adjustment cylinder maintains track tension. To tighten the track, apply grease to the grease fitting in the small hole of the track frame near the idler. To loosen the track, use a wrench to carefully loosen the joint and release the grease.
 
4. On hard and flat ground, such as cement roads, the track should be tightened to prevent the track from being too long and increasing the wear of the supporting wheels.
 
5. On ground covered with pebbles, the track should be loosened to reduce the intensity of wear to a certain extent.
 
6. On soft ground, the tracks should be loosened. Mud is often easily absorbed by the tracks. Loosening the tracks can increase the walking force area and prevent slipping.
